How to get from Dushanbe to Tashkent: plane, train, bus, and taxi

Traveling from Dushanbe to Tashkent is one of the popular routes in Central Asia. The cities are about 300 km apart in a straight line and over 400 km by road. There are several ways to travel, depending on your budget, time, and preferences.

Plane — the fastest option, aviasales.ru

The quickest way to travel. Direct flights from Dushanbe Airport to Tashkent are operated by Uzbekistan Airways and Somon Air. Flight time is about 50 minutes. Including check-in and waiting time, the total journey takes around 3–4 hours. Prices depend on the season and booking date: from 700 to 1000 somoni or $75–110 one way. It’s convenient to check current fares on aggregator websites.

This option is ideal for those who value comfort and want to save time.

Train — for relaxed travel, railway.tj, rasp.yandex.ru

There is a railway connection between the cities: one train operates on this route, but the schedule is irregular. The route passes through several cities.

Travel time is about 19 hours. Tickets are cheaper than flights, starting from 220 somoni or $25, but the journey takes significantly longer. The advantage is a more relaxed travel experience and the chance to enjoy the scenery.

You can check the latest schedule on the official Tajik Railways website.

Bus and minibuses — a budget option, rome2rio.com

The most affordable way is by bus or shared minibus. They depart from the Dushanbe bus station and travel via the border crossing.

Travel time is about 8–10 hours, including border procedures. Prices start from 250 somoni or $28. Keep in mind there may be delays at the border.

Taxi — comfort and flexibility

Private drivers operate активно between the cities. You can hire a whole taxi or share the ride with other passengers. Tourists often travel via the route Dushanbe — Panjakent — Tashkent. The cost is around 250 somoni or $28.

Travel time is about 6–8 hours. It’s more expensive than the bus but cheaper than flying if you share the cost. A good option for those who prefer a direct and comfortable trip.
