What interesting films and TV series were filmed in Uzbekistan

The unique architecture of Uzbekistan often becomes the perfect scenery for films and TV series. We tell about seven famous films that were filmed in Uzbekistan — from cult Soviet comedies to modern cinema.


“Gentlemen of Fortune”, 1971


The comedy about the adventures of a kindergarten teacher is familiar to everyone. Many shots from this film were filmed in Samarkand and the Samarkand region.


“The Prisoner of Château d’If”, 1989


The film, a joint production of the USSR and France in three episodes, was filmed based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas The Count of Monte Cristo. Scenes from this film were filmed in several countries — Italy, France, and in the Soviet Union the filming took place in Bukhara and Samarkand.


“Vysotsky. Thank You for Being Alive”, 2011


The main filming of the film, telling about the last years of Vladimir Vysotsky, took place in Bukhara and Samarkand, for example, at the Siab Bazaar.


“The Soothsayer Omar Khayyam. Chronicle of a Legend”, 2012


The multi-episode film about the life and formation of the poet and scientist Omar Khayyam was filmed as a joint production of Russia and Iran, and its filming partially took place in Samarkand, Bukhara, and the Khorezm region in Uzbekistan.


“Red Queen”, 2015


The popular multi-episode melodrama about the famous Soviet mannequin was filmed in many cities: Moscow, Kyiv, Lviv, Brest, Minsk, as well as in Samarkand.


“Games”, 2024


Many shots of the multi-episode film about the preparation for the 1980 Olympic Games were filmed in Tashkent, as well as in the city of Angren in the Tashkent region.


“Love of the Soviet Union”, 2024


The Russian historical drama was filmed in many locations, including in Uzbekistan.
